About Mac
Born and raised in the world of small business.
Mac grew up right here in Lower Appalachia. As the son and grandson of small business owners, he experienced firsthand the never-ending challenge and reward that owning and operating a small business presents. He learned invaluable lessons about the importance of putting people before profits, making the hard right decision for your business instead of the easy wrong one, and leveraging the business's product/service as well as the jobs it provides to make a profound impact on communities.

Leading Teams Large and Small
After graduating high school, Mac felt a calling to give back to our country. He attended the United States Air Force Academy, where he eventually served as the Cadet Wing Commander, leading all 4,200 Cadets in the performance of their military, academic, and physical training duties. Answering a calling to get closer to the warfighters at the front of America's fights, he joined the Marine Corps after graduating from the USAFA and became an Infantry Officer. In seven years of Active Duty service, he led diverse teams of up to 200 Marines overseas, at sea, and at home. He graduated from the University of Virginia Darden School of Business after completing seven years in the Marines.
Leading people was and remains his passion. Leading Cadets taught him the importance of discipline, trusting the team, and working as hard as the job requires. Leading Marines taught him to always put the needs of my Marines before his own, to never lose sight of the forest for the trees, to provide clear intent and "the why" to the team, and to know when to get out of the way.

Giving Back by Leading Forward
Driven to use small business to improve communities.
Mac and his wife, Rebecca, founded Appalachia Legacy Group to make lives better.
Owning and operating a small business is the culmination of Mac's life in leadership. After learning leadership in the crucible of time in uniform, he is seeking an opportunity to leverage that experience to improve the lives of employees, customers, and communities in and around Lower Appalachia.

Our region has been forgotten by much of Corporate America. Successful ownership and growth of our small businesses is how we help our communities fill the gap.
